Kejriwal :: Is he deviating from his aim ?
Rise of Kejriwal in
Indian politics is a good omen. After 60 years of independence, our politicians
brought the level of politics to such a low level that existence of idealistic
politics appeared to be an impossibility. Entry of Kejriwal and his AAP into
Indian politics has now changed the rules of political game in India for good.
He was an activist fighting for establishment of a sound anti-corruption
mechanism in the form of Janlokpal. Many people were and are still with him for
this purpose. Some arrogant politicians took a stand that people can’t dictate
lows from outside the parliament. They challenged the people to enter the
system and cleans it. Such display of
arrogance in the name of supremacy of the parliament hurt the feelings of all common
men. Kejriwal accepted the challenge, launched his political party,
participated in Delhi assembly elections and won 28 of 70 seats. He got success
because people of India wanted to assert them as real masters in a democracy.
They wanted to establish that Parliament and assemblies are for them, by them
and of theirs. These august bodies are not monopolistic possession of dirty
politicians. Kejriwal gave voice and face to the people fad up with dirty
politics.
After his and his party’s impressive performance in Delhi
assembly elections, he seems to be deviating from his aim that is bringing cleanliness
in governance. In my view, he is in very sound position where he can allow
formation of BJP government by offering external support with his own conditions,
compelling BJP to form the government and implement his major agenda. If he had
gone in for such a bargaining with BJP,
it would have either exposed BJP or he could have started getting good work
done. This would have given him advantage in next elections. He could have
taken credit for getting certain things done despite being not in power and
appeal the people to give him complete majority so that he could serve well and
do more for the people. All this shows either he lacks leadership qualities or
he wants absolute power. Either he has remained emotional agitator or he is a
shrewd politician, shrewder than the existing lot.
As Amish in his Shiva trilogy establishes that all good
gradually turns into evil, the good in the form of Kejriwal seems to have started
to turn into evil. See his recent statements after his success in elections. He
has started to speak same language which politicians in India generally speak.
The contempt and despise he displays for other political parties put him in the
line of same politicians. Actually he should be happy that because of the rise
of AAP, BJP and Congress are compelled to take high moral ground. But I heard
him asking BJP to resort to the same dirty tricks which it had taken recourse
to in UP to form government in Delhi. Such kind of statements smack of
arrogance. He has every right to decide course of action for his party in
prevailing situation. Ultimately his aim is to clean the dirt in politics. But
his statements after his success in elections suggests that he wants the dirt
to remain in others because that dirt has led him to success. Now his aim seems
to have changed to gain absolute power. That’s
why now he is asking others to remain dirty so that he can offer clean dispensation
and enjoy power.
